She felt the cold air rush in on her face and graze her naked skin. She looked at her partner next to her in the bed, wicked smile starting across his lips. “You’re going to get it now, whore,” he whispered. She stared into his dark eyes, looking for a sign of humanity, a sign of life. She only saw blackness, and demons.

She had given him everything he asked, and she hadn’t even demanded a very high price. She hated the rough treatment, the constant pain in her body and mind. She felt all their glances on the street. They all knew that she was a dirty woman. read more

The Dandelion and the Truth of Love

The Dandelion and the Truth of Love

It is quickly becoming winter here in Minnesota. We even had our first snow flurries today! But as I walked on an errand, I saw some brave dandelions still raising their gray, fluffy heads to the sky. I wrote a blog post some time ago about the brave dandelion, and here I revisit the flower with this poem.

Blowing dandelions
in the wind,
cottony white puffs,
softly shining joy and hope,
reminding me of childhood
against a cloudy and bleak sky.

Each seed is a promise,
which will grow into a yellow youth,
deepen into a furry white old age,
and finally give itself up,
in another cloud of seeds,
in love,
in the cycle of earth. read more

Meditation to Clear Negative Reiki

The Negative Side of Reiki

I often talk about the power of Love and the connection with the universal oneness that a Reiki session can facilitate. Most Reiki practitioners say that Reiki is a pure healing energy and cannot produce any harm.

But some people have experienced negative and even life-threatening side effects from Reiki treatments. Why? The answer is found in the energy and connection of the Reiki practitioner. The biggest disrupter of pure energy is greed. Money. The lust for power, or even the fear of not having enough. Stay far away from any practitioner of Reiki or any form of healing who is all about the money or shows signs of greed. read more

Can Pain Be My Medicine?

pain as medicine

Is pain something to be avoided at all costs? Or can pain be my friend, my teacher, my companion on the spiritual journey?

Where does pain come from? This is a deep question that neither doctors nor philosophers can adequately answer. If I cut my finger or place my hand on a hot iron, my nerves fire lightning-speed, and my brain tells my muscles to withdraw. This is a natural protective response in our physical bodies to protect us from physical harm. Scientists call it the sympathetic nervous system. read more

A Natural Healer’s Thoughts on Obamacare

I am a healer. I use natural and Holy Spirit-led healing methods and ideas to bring balance in my own life, my family’s life, and the lives of my clients. My greatest hope as a healer and spiritual seeker is to bring balance, light, and love to my community and the world at large as I am led by YHWH, the Creator and great Healer. I believe that everyone has the right to seek an abundant life full of joy, and to follow a journey of healing from physical and emotional pain.

Sadly, my country is in turmoil right now, following a path of hatred and destruction, the opposite path of healing. I am disgusted by Congress and the constant bickering and posturing of those who supposedly “represent” us. They are willing to shut down the government at the risk of jobs, housing, even food and life itself for Americans everywhere, all in the name of denying universal medical care: The Affordable Care Act, AKA Obamacare. read more

I Know Why the Willow Weeps

SONY DSC

This is an excerpt from a novel which I am currently writing, but I think it is timely to post this in light of the continuing destruction and strife which our country is facing under the government shutdown.

I know why the willow weeps.

The willow is a sensitive soul that sees all and carries all. More than all the other trees, she feels a burden for humanity and for the state of your earth. She does not fear her own destiny, but she fears the destiny of the human heart.

Once upon a time long ago, the willow stood tall and her branches reached toward the sky, like all of the other trees. She lived in the green garden with the Tree of Life. She gently watched over Creation as she soaked in the deep secrets. Dewy teardrops would sometimes gather on her leaves as she felt so grateful and overwhelmed by awe at Creation and the great Author of Life. read more

Fire Dance

I recently enjoyed a day at the Renaissance Festival. I had fun watching the performers and meeting people who are living out the fullness of their dreams and imaginations.

A fire dance show caught my attention and my imagination. A man and a woman danced on the stage, moving gracefully in sync, full of energy and power. The beads on the woman’s dress glimmered brightly in the light of the fire and the cloudy sun. Her long, dark hair fell down her curvaceous back in a cascading braid. She swung her flaming whip dangerously in time to the music, loud, cracking streaks of orange and yellow splitting the atmosphere. read more

There are angels all around us. They protect us and wage war over us. They watch the affairs of humans in awe. We are as mysterious to them as they are to us.

Unfortunately, most people do not understand the role of angels. We have been sold a cultural idea of a cute, fluffy angel with big cheeks, pillow wings, and Precious Moments tear drop eyes who flies around and plays a harp all day. This is far from the truth. Angels are fierce beings of light, warriors of the highest order, protectors of everything sacred. read more

The Soul of the Tree

The Soul of the Tree

Spring is my favorite season. I enjoy feeling the wind tickling my leaves and the sun warming my branches. I enjoy watching the flowers popping up around my roots, adding their blues, yellows, purples to the newly-green grass, like a bunch of crayons in a child’s world. Spring is innocent and new. Spring is a child.

Summer is nice, too. I especially like the summer evenings, a cool blanket of darkness chasing away the thick heat. I dream of the starry constellations carrying me away to the realm of mystery and spirit, timelessness, peace. I especially like when the owls light on my branches, their deep voices echoing the wisdom of time past and future. I have never experienced the ocean, but I have known whispers from the coastal trees, and I imagine the owls and the whales singing the same haunting songs calling for the harmony and healing on earth. read more

Running Shoe

This is a story that I created for a writing class that I am taking. The teacher challenged us to use a shoe as metaphor, and this is my response. Several years ago, when I was a music student in graduate school, a marathon runner, and a wounded soul just beginning to discover my path of healing, I experienced a brutal ankle injury. Here is my memory of that time.

The shoe sits by my door, new dust of neglect mixing with the old dust of races won and lost. The shoe looks lonely, like a puppy waiting by the door, leash in mouth, looking for her owner to come home for a walk. But the outing will have to wait for a brighter day. read more
